new work by Michael Louis Young
July 31st through August 28th

Michael Louis Young creates landscapes that are at times dark, and ominous, and at other times strange or even goofy but always chocked full of an absurd comedic sensibility that emits a deliberate and skin deep existential cool. Young creates this psychological no mans land through acrylic paintings and mixed media sculptures, which leave their viewers with a whole lot of questions and not too many answers. Many of these works focus on hand made signs and banners bearing snippets of pop songs and other upbeat aphorisms, but hanging beneath the dark branches of Young's invented wilderness it's hard to forget that you can't believe everything you read. These paintings and sculptures are at once serious and light hearted. They strain to draw attention to the real terror and fragility inherent in the human condition, and then to poke fun at how stupid it is to spend your time worrying about these.
