New Work by Kris Chau and Ako Castuera

About a decade ago, the two artists studied illustration at California College of Arts and Crafts, and bonded through a common and unparalleled enthusiasm for drawing, sketching, and making. In addition to superb draftsmanship and having successful commercial work, both artists are in their own right exceedingly prolific with their personal work, and share a unique ability for creatively expressing and conveying passionate, humorous and absurd narrative. This is their first two-person show together. This is the second show at Rowan Morrison for both artists (Ako Castuera; Paint By Needle, 2007 and Kris Chau; Talk Story, 2008).
Ako Castuera's work features impossible arrangements of plants, animals, and geological formations, describing the land she lives on through a lens of fantasy. She lives in Los Angeles and is a writer/storyboard artist on the animated television show, "Adventure Time".
Kris Chau, born and raised in Hawaii now resides in Philadelphia as a working illustrator and designer. She dreams of drawing puppies and girls all day long. Her client list includes work for Bitch Magazine, Day Dream Nation, Urban Outfitters, BC Shoes, Swindle Magazine, the Seattle Stranger, and the New York Times. She is still trying to find her way home.
