is pleased to announce a solo show of new works by Mitsy Ávila
Ovalles. A San Jose native, and self proclaimed “ESL”, Ovalles
utilizes her abilities and as an accomplished draftswoman to create
amazingly painted artifacts of Mexican, Chicano and American pop culture.
She draws inspiration from a deep pool of imagery including Latino “b-list”
celebrities from soap operas, sports, and pop music, as well as animal
and consumer iconography. Her paintings are deeply layered and richly
textured and often presented as part of larger murals and installations
that include an array of narrative and personal artifacts, yet speak
of a common cultural, generational and gender experience. |
