new work by Todd Lanam
September 4th - October 2nd

The Franklin Wall (Detail), 2010, oil on canvas, 48 x 60 inches
Todd Lanam uses personal photographs as a vehicle to visually recreate experience of retaining and unearthing memories. Though they are seemingly ordinary and uneventful, these photographs are imbued with personal meaning and importance. The long hours spent painting these images become an investigation and meditation into the significance of these subjects and how they have come to shape him as a person.
Although there is much scrutiny and affection put into these images, the world in Lanam’s paintings is distant, fleeting and unattainable. The process of covering, erasing, omitting and revealing, highlights the transient nature of these places as they exist in consciousness and displays the distortion of reality that time creates.
Todd Lanam is a local artist who grew up in the Bay Area. In 2006 he earned his B.F.A. at California College of the Arts in San Francisco in the area of Painting and Drawing.
